AMD has announced two new processor ranges, the AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 7000 WX-Series and the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 7000 Series. The company says that the processors set a new standard for computing performance and innovation in the industry.

Threadripper PRO 7000 WX-Series

AMD designed the Ryzen Threadripper PRO 7000 WX-Series processors for professionals and businesses that demand top-tier performance, reliability, expandability and security. The new processors give you the multi-core performance of the 5 nm “Zen 4” architecture. They also feature up to 96 cores and 192 processing threads of performance needed for workstations. In addition, the Ryzen Threadripper PRO 7000 WX-Series processors use AMD PRO technologies. These deliver the enterprise-level security and management features businesses need.

Threadripper 7000 Series

The AMD Ryzen Threadripper 7000 Series are AMD’s first processors for the high-end desktop (HEDT) market since 2000. These processors are again built with the AMD “Zen 4” architecture. They also feature up to 64 cores and 128 threads and offer up to 48 PCIe 5.0 lanes. In addition, the Ryzen Threadripper 7000 Series processors use a quad-channel DDR5 memory controller. This can deliver twice the memory bandwidth of typical dual-channel desktop systems.

World-class innovation

“AMD has a long history of leading innovation in the workstation and high-performance computing segments, and this new lineup of Ryzen Threadripper 7000 Series processors marks another step on that path,” said Jack Huynh, senior vice president and GM, Computing and Graphics Business Group at AMD. “These processors are a testament to our unwavering commitment to delivering world-class innovation and performance, and we’re confident that they will unlock incredible creative potential in our users while continuing to raise the bar on energy efficiency in the most capable platform on the planet.”

What we think

The new AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 7000 WX-Series and Ryzen Threadripper 7000 Series processors promise exceptional multi-threaded performance. This makes them ideal for powering a video editing workstation or desktop computer. In addition, they support up to 1 TB or 2 TB of DDR5 memory. This is great for VFX work with programs such as Adobe After Effects. As high level processors, the new AMD Threadripper series won’t be cheap. However, if you make your money from video work, they could be just what you need in your new workstation or desktop system.

Pricing and availability

Workstations AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 7000 WX-Series processors are scheduled to be available from Dell, HP and Lenovo, by the end of 2023. High-end desktop platforms using AMD Ryzen Threadripper 7000 Series processors will also be available from system integrators by the end of 2023. If you want to build your own system, the new processors will be available from DIY retailers from November 21st.
